Circle Ten Council Boy Scouts of America Salutes Tom Thumb Food and Pharmacy for their ongoing support of Scouting for Food in North Texas.  Tom Thumb has sponsored Circle Ten's largest service project since 1988, helping the Boy Scouts collect more than 9.3 million cans of food for local pantries in our communities.

Scouting for Food...

Because A Scout is Helpful

Scouting for Food is the largest single-day food collection event in Dallas and one of the largest in the nation.  On one day, approximately 30,000 Scouts go door-to-door collecting non-perishable food item for the less fortunate.  The food is distributed to local food pantries across Circle Ten Council.

What is Scouting for Food?

Scouting for Food is the largest door-to-door food collection effort in the Dallas-Fort Worth area benefiting more than 45 assistance agencies across the area.

Who helps with Scouting for Food?
Scouting for Food involves approximately 30,000 Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Venturers, friends, family and volunteers from Circle Ten Council, BSA.

 

In 2009, Scouts collected more than 450,000 non-perishible food items for local pantires. Pack 19 was also able to get one of their newest neighbors to participate in Scouting for Food. President Bush stopped to take photos with the Scouts.

When will bags be available?
Donation bags will be distributed to units at January Roundtable Meetings. Scouts should place bags on doorsteps beginning on Saturday, February 13, 2010. The food will be collected from residences starting at 9 a.m. on Saturday, February 20, 2010. 

Some Scouts go door-to-door asking for donations or work with participating grocery stores to ensure we are helping our local food pantries. Donations may also dropped off at local Tom Thumb stores through the end of February. 

Where does it happen?
Circle Ten Council covers 12 counties—11 in north central Texas and one in Bryan County, Oklahoma. The goal is to place a bag on every single door step within the council.
 

Goal:
The goal for Scouting for Food this year is 500,000 food items.
 

What Kind of Donations are Needed?
Food donations needed include canned items such as vegetables, meats, chili, soups or juices, and baby formula. Boxed or bagged meals and pastas are also welcome. The ideal food donation bag would include one of each. (Please—nothing perishable, frozen or in glass. Monetary donations cannot be accepted.)
